This law states that drivers are prohibited from driving or parking in any area that is specifically designated for use by bicyclists or pedestrians. The only exception to this rule is if the driver must do so in order to park legally— such as in a legal parking space on a public street or in a residential driveway. Drivers may not park or stop their vehicles in lanes that are shared between bicycles and vehicles or put themselves in a position that interferes with bike traffic in designated bike lanes. If a driver fails to follow this law, he or she is not only subject to the standard penalty, but his or her car may be towed or impounded.
